TROUT UNLIMITED AND TU TEENS
Making a Difference
The Rocky Point Fly Fishing Company's main goal is to promote fly fishing and the importance of conservation, which is why I joined my local chapter of Trout Unlimited. Trout Unlimited is a national organization dedicated to conservation and the sport of fly fishing. The non profit organization not only provided me with amazing relationships within the fly fishing community, but educated me about how I could help the sport thrive and pass it on to future generations. After countless restoration projects and river cleanups, I witnessed the impact that just a small group of volunteers can have on the fisheries and local waters - fresh and saltwater. This motivated me to introduce others my age, and those younger, to TU and the sport of fly fishing and the importance of helping our local rivers.
TU Teens is a great way to get involved and make a difference. The annual TU Teen Summit selects teens from across the country to learn about conservation, fish habitats, legislation affecting rivers and ecosystems, and more. A select few become part of the National Youth Leadership Council of TU. A link to the application and more information on the Teen Summit can be found under my News section.
LEARNING TO FLY FISH AT ROCKY POINT
FLY FISHING INFORMATION
Every student will receive information on where to fish in our local area and Fairfield County (with maps and when to fish), an intro to fly fishing lingo, Trout Unlimited information, links to fly fishing websites and youtube videos with casting demos.

EQUIPMENT & GEAR
You don't have to spend a lot on fly fishing gear, but there's a reason why fly fishing requires special gear and equipment. From the waders that let you go deep into the middle of a cold river, to the vest that features 10+ pockets for everything from your fly case, dry powder, line cutters, the cool face buff to shield you from flying insects and the sun and, of course, the all important waterproof wading boots. You will learn also how fly fishing equipment is so different from bait fishing equipment and why.
CASTING
Campers will use practicasters to learn the basics of casting. Once they learn basic casts, campers will use a real fly rod. They will learn what weight tippet to use for various types of fishing conditions and (of course) what tippet is! All equipment is provided.

ABOUT YOU CAN FLY
Sharing the art of fly fishing with everyone
When I started my Rocky Point Fly Fishing Camps, I realized that very few kids have the opportunity to learn how to fly fish. The equipment is expensive, and unless they are familiar with local rivers, kids just don't know where to go. I decided to use my proceeds from my camps to buy a few practicasters and I reached out to Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the Boys and Girls Club to see if they would be interested in me teaching some kids and their big brothers how to fly fish and tie flies. When they said yes, You Can Fly was born! I would like to thank Orvis who generously donates rods and tippet for the You Can Fly program. Since the Spring of 2016, when I brought my first group of "bigs and littles" out on the water, I have had the opportunity to teach many more. In the process, I have learned a lot and there's no better feeling than seeing the look on their faces when they catch their first fish!
